The Evangelical Apostolos Ministry

Directorate of Heart Languages

God’s Word in the Language of the Heart

Many communities and languages in Nigeria are yet to have adequate access to the Word of God. Although some individuals may have been exposed to Scripture in other languages, this often does not result in deep understanding or personal connection, as those are not their heart language.

In response to this gap, our department found it necessary to intervene by recruiting and training individuals from these communities to engage in Oral Bible Translation — translating the Word of God into the people’s heart language. Through this approach, community members are able to hear Scripture in a language they understand and relate to more naturally and meaningfully.

Our overall obligation is to ensure that people have access to God’s Word through Oral Translation in their heart language, thereby promoting better comprehension, engagement and spiritual growth. This mandate aligns with our ministry vision: “We seek to bring obedience of faith in His name among the nations.”

What We Do

Scripture in Audio, Not Only in Books

Our target communities are unreached peoples groups without an Oral Bible. Instead of producing written books, we translate Scripture into audio formats using proven oral Bible translation processes. This ensures that God’s Word is easy to access, portable and meaningful for oral-based communities.

  • Oral storying.
  • Community-based retelling.
  • Accuracy checking.
  • Audio recording.

After a translation project is completed

The translated Scriptures are shared through community checks, churches and fellowships, oral teaching, evangelism, mobile phones and other everyday channels — so the Word travels with the people who carry it.

Our Oral Bible Translation Process

From Story to Scripture

Oral Storying

Scripture is internalised and told as story, in the natural rhythms of the language.

Community Retelling

The community retells what it has heard, so the rendering belongs to the people it serves.

Accuracy Checking

Each portion is checked for clarity, accuracy and faithfulness before it is approved.

Audio Recording

The approved Scripture is recorded in audio — portable, shareable and ready for the field.

Major Accomplishment

Key Milestones

One of the major accomplishments recorded in the Department of Heart Languages is the success of the Tachirak Oral Bible translation project, followed by that of the Ondo South Cluster — comprising Apoi, Arogbo-Ijaw, Ilaje and Ikale — and the IRAPADA Cluster, which includes Biseni, Ekirom, Ijebu and Okeagbe in Ondo State, communities that previously had no access to God’s Word in their own heart language.

Translation teams were formed and trained, and the translators have proven strong commitment and diligence in ensuring accurate, clear and faithful translation of the Scriptures. Completed portions were shared with the communities, where they were received with great joy and emotional impact as many people heard God’s Word in their own language for the first time. Testimonies from community members confirmed deeper understanding and spiritual encouragement.

The department further recorded a major milestone in 2025: the successful approval of 30 sections of the book of Luke for Ijebu, 20 sections for Okeagbe, 18 for Ekirom and 15 for Biseni — even before departure from the training ground at Igbekebo, Ondo State, at the Render Workshop.

The early approval of these sections demonstrated the effectiveness of the guidance provided by facilitators and trainers, as well as the commitment, collaboration and diligence of the group members. It also highlighted the adequacy of the training environment, resources and structured support systems that enabled participants to meet all required standards promptly.

Reaching this milestone before leaving the training centre boosted the confidence of the translators, allowing them to transition confidently to their various OBT offices in the communities.
